Hi. AS a follow up to this, it was suggested that I run the at-spi daemon by hand, and I had to wait for assistance to try this, but when I did, the run application box just came up for a second and disappeared, so I was not able to run gnome-terminal. Also, I got the following message from my kernel during this process: Jan 30 19:34:26 ccs bonobo-activation-server (martin-14724): could not associate with desktop session: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-RxtRS3tdmt: Connec\tion refused Jan 30 19:34:27 ccs kernel: ------------[ cut here ]------------ Jan 30 19:34:27 ccs kernel: WARNING: at fs/sysfs/dir.c:463 sysfs_add_one+0x2f/0x3b() Jan 30 19:34:27 ccs kernel: sysfs: duplicate filename 'vcs13' can not be created along with a complete backtrace which I have not included.
Something is seriously wrong with gnome, but I don't have a clue as to how to fix it. on Tue, 13 Jan 2009 11:31:54 +0800 Li Yuan <li.y...@sun.com> wrote: > Did you build it with "--enable-xevie=no" ? > > Li > > John covici wrote: >> Here is the ./configure -- I am using the gentoo ebuild >> ./configure --prefix=/usr --host=i686-pc-linux-gnu >> --mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info --datadir=/usr/share >> --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/va\r/lib --enable-gtk-doc >> --build=i686-pc-linux-gnu >> and there is a at-spi-registryd in /usr/libexec . >> Now one of the messages I get says: Xlib: extension "XEVIE" missing >> on display ":0.0". >> >> How in the heck should I fix this? >> >> >> >> on Tuesday 01/13/2009 Li Yuan(li.y...@sun.com) wrote >> > You can try to build at-spi with "--enable-xevie=no" to disable >> XEVIE. > And make sure at-spi-registryd locate in the right >> directory (depends on > your drstro) by "--libexecdir=" >> > > Regards, >> > Li >> > > John covici wrote: >> > > How do I find out -- the answer to your question -- sorry for the >> > > newbie question. >> > > >> > > on Tuesday 01/13/2009 Li Yuan(li.y...@sun.com) wrote >> > > > Hi John, >> > > > > > > Seems your at-spi-registryd isn't started.
