In case you have trouble finding the correct package: if you are on an rpm-bases system (e.g. Redhat, CentOS, SuSE), try rpm -qf /usr/bin/libSM.so to find the package providing the shared library. The corresponding static lib should be in a package with a similar name, but with a -dev or -devel suffix.
