I haven't got a lot of time because its Fathers Day and I am meant to
be spending time with my family, however I got a tad pissed off at the
response from James so I felt compelled to respond.

Arduino doesn't use C#, it uses C++ but with C syntax, it is weird. The
majority of Arduino code is C++, although C is possible. Arduino is one
of the easiest microcontrollers to program for, so do not worry, the
resources are great and the people over on IRC are very helpful.

Good luck! I am not the best at hardware but in theory this shouldn't
be too hard. However I would point you towards the strong regulation
for ebikes in the UK, I would advice you read through it all so you
don't end up fined a large amount of money, or worse, arrested.

Also, if you are missing with Lithium ion batteries do be careful with
these, or your home might turn into a bonfire.

You might want to learn mailing list etiquette, begging isn't part of

An idea is very different from the knowledge required to do this. There
is a bit of physics involved and I am sure people would be happy to
help but they can't spoon feed you.

TL;DR don't bite off more than you can chew, if you are new to Arduino
don't go for a massive project which you would struggle to even get
started with, try a few easier ones and work your way up, you will end
up having a broader knowledge that way, and also it will be far easier
than jumping in the deep end and potentially drowning. (never managing
to finish the project).

Take it from someone who helped College students use Arduino, many
people these days haven't seen any authentic code other than some basic
Python, so it is not as easy as it would be for someone who is more
familiar with the C/C++ programming concepts.

The idea of semi-colons and braces to many young people is foreign, and
they tend to struggle with the concept of datastructures.

And to this I say, blame schools teaching python (weakly typed, and
scope defined by indentation instead of braces).

You are discussing here calculating the distance travelled, I don't
think they wanted to measure their bike distance. The speedometer is
all you would need, but ensure that it stays well within the speed
limit of ebikes, otherwise you will get arrested. 

If I remember correctly, an electric motor must only provide
acceleration up to a velocity of 15.5mph. Please research the law
yourself as IANAL.

Never suggest copilot, I am sorry but vibecoding hardware is a stupid
idea, and from that alone I would urge MJ to disregard your email.

We are talking about potentially Lithium Ion Batteries, and a bike
being ridden by a human being, and you want to trust an AI to write
code and safety measures for it? Broken bones and an explosion is what
I predict.

Also AI teachers you nothing, if you have to rely on AI to write code
for you, you never learn how to write code yourself. I know a few
people who will argue with me on this, but I will urge them to remember
that they have written software for decades and can tell the difference
between decent code, and shit code.

Think what happens if you were testing the ebike and the AI gave you
code which had no ability to disable the motor, you would end up full
speed into a brick wall... and then you will need to explain it to the
doctor in A&E and say "I trusted an AI to code for me".
