The ~/Public directory on Debian-esque distributions is used for various
sharing functions. Do you mean you are unable to list it remotely or
unable to list it when logged on to the local system as lesley?
It would be informative to see the output of the following commands:
$ ls -l /home
$ ls -l ~/lesley
$ ls -l ~/lesley/Public
And when you say you are unable to execute files, what error do you get?
