So, I'm like a year later, but thats fine, right? I just (su git) to become git and then ran (bundle exec rake gitlab:shell:install[v2.6.3] REDIS_URL=unix:/usr/local/var/ run/redis/redis.sock RAILS_ENV=production) and it worked fine. Then I exited back out to become root again and things ran great. :)
