Email notification is confusing in that notification for push events is handled 
completely differently from notification for other events (see 
<https://groups.google.com/d/msgid/gitlabhq/8EE3ECEF-8514-4C71-939B-6076BD7E3A6F%40indel.ch>).
 Just to make sure it's not that that is tripping you up, are the events that 
you are expecting but not getting notifications for among the ones listed in 
<http://doc.gitlab.com/ce/workflow/notifications.html#notification-events>, or 
are they pushes?
