I removed the extras (i.e., the list in session.conf sans the native plugin htmlchars) and it doesn't crash anymore. However, to make sure I don't have any other baggage hanging around I think I'll backup my config dir(s), totally uninstall, clean and reinstall Geany. That should be a clean start, other than my prefs.
