That just means you don't have a version of the XSane plugin installed that is appropriate for 2.6.x. (this is easy to verify -- the plugin browser in the Help menu allows you to search by name, and shows where in the menu something shows up. searching 'sane' will probably bring up nothing) Chris Mohler's suggestion is good.
