There are tutorials for the GAP (GIMP Animation Package) at the GIMP Talk Forum. I wrote one of them. http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/topic/Gap-For-Animated-Gif-9937-1.html I suggest the GAP because you want to have transitions between the images, which is more complex than simply changing frames.
