Right, I mean that I tried to verify if xsane worked, was in order. So, launching it on its own, outside the gimp I could work with it to acquire an image, a fax, etc. So xsane exists & works, isn't "out of order". Its the combination of xsane & the gimp that doesn't seem to work properly.
