Really GGI -might- suit your purpose....

>From what it sounds you can write using OpenGL purely -> for I/O GGI might
be handy. (the DGA or OpenGL target here. I'm not 100% sure DGA works
with current 3Dfx/Banshee X as I haven't tried it in a while but prolly.
OpenGL -can- do it but I don't know if GGI has an OpenGL target yet).

3dfx/banshee : don't really reccommend using Glide. Unless with X 3.3/3.5
-not- with 4.0. But I could be wrong... OpenGL is definitely better.

the DRI drivers really are X-centric and at the moment X is required to
run. (this may not always be true :)

You shouldn't require -anything- special to get GGI working. Under X it
works farely well. using the 3dfx FB driver (in the kernel) is possible
_PROVIDING_ that X is _NOT_ loaded. If one switches out or closes an FB
program while X is loaded on the 3Dfx/banshee, the system _will_ freeze
solid. Hardware crash (3dfx card)

Other than that warning (don't run console graphical programs while X is
running on 3Dfx/banshee), everything should work perfectly without any
changes AFAIK.

Hope that helps :)

G'day, eh? :)
        - Teunis who runs pre-4.0 X/3dfx/DRI, GGI, and all on a
          3Dfx/Banshee :)
