It is fixed in CVS and should as well be in the most recent snaps.
It is rumored, that the original problem (setting the extension to .dll
on windows) isn't fixed, but on Linux it should work again.

I don't know, if that is possible. If you have any problems with it, I'd
suggest to just stick to snapshots and patches.

It sends you the whole source tree, recursively. Basically you get the
same as after unpacking a snapshot, plus a few administrative files in
subdirectories named 'CVS'. The benefit of CVS is, that it has "automagic"
diff and patch features, so that you can update quickly in both directions.
