The faculty member will be jointly based (50-50) in the Science, Technology and International Affairs Program (STIA) at the School of Foreign Service and the Earth Commons Institute in the Graduate School for Arts and Sciences (GSAS). This new hire is part of a broader cluster of faculty recruitments complementing existing expertise in the areas of environment and sustainability at Georgetown University. We are looking to hire a teaching professor (open rank, non tenure line) with training and teaching experience in the field of global environmental affairs to lead the MS-EIA capstone experience and related courses. Relevant disciplinary backgrounds would include political science, international relations, public policy, environmental science and policy, environmental security, natural resource management, or other interdisciplinary training with a focus on both science and politics and/or policy. We are looking for someone who is both a teacher and a practitioner, with work experience and connections across the field of global environmental affairs, including with US government agencies, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations. Expertise should include a focus on transboundary and/or global environmental policy or science, and may include fields such as climate change, ozone depletion, ocean science, biodiversity and conservation, or arctic/polar science. Teaching responsibilities include the development and oversight of an 8 month, 4 credit capstone experience (a 1 credit seminar during the spring semester and a 3 credit project during the summer) where students will work on projects with clients in the field of the environment and international affairs. In addition, the faculty member will offer several elective courses each year (combination of graduate and undergraduate). The teaching load for non-tenure line teaching positions is generally 3-3, but this position includes a reduced load in fall or spring to compensate for teaching responsibilities during the summer associated with the capstone experience course. As a result this position is a 12 month contract.
