This may well be a valuable resource for many of you teaching theories of
regulation and governance and there are a several chapters that directly
address environmental issues. Plus it is completely free to download.

[Regulatory Theory - book cover]

RegNet’s new free etext, Regulatory Theory: Foundations & Applications (Peter
Drahos ed.) is now available for free download at ANU Press.

» take a look at the textbook

The textbook was designed with the PhD student, regulatory practitioner or
policy maker in mind, introducing in an accessible way the central issues of
regulatory theory through a selection of key concepts and topics. With its 43
chapters from 44 scholars from across the global RegNet network, including
chapters from John and Valerie Braithwaite, Peter Grabosky, Neil Gunningham,
Fiona Haines, Terry Halliday, David Levi-Faur, Christine Parker, Colin Scott
and Clifford Shearing, this textbook is a valuable resource.

The textbook was born out of a desire to make RegNet’s work on regulation and
governance accessible to our students, as well as to regulatory practitioners
and scholars everywhere. Law and sociology scholars, criminologists,
economists, political scientists, public health theorists, amongst others, will
find it a comprehensive interdisciplinary resource on the themes of regulation,
governance and globalisation.

At RegNet we are strong supporters of the global intellectual commons, so we
have decided to make the electronic version of the book freely available.

The book is accessible in its entirety in epub and PDF versions, but also in
individual PDF chapters. It features an interactive contents page that divides
chapters into key theories, concepts, methods and psychological foundations. If
you are unsure where to start, or are looking for material on, for example, a
specific theory or concept use this interactive to navigate to chapters in your
area of interest or to find key readings in regulatory theory.

Do take a moment to browse through the textbook. We welcome its use in
teaching or as a resource for interested students.
