VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OR VISITING LECTURER OF ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

Center for Environmental Studies, Brown University

The Center for Environmental Studies at Brown University invites
applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies for
a non-tenure track position.? The position will run for one year with the
possibility of renewal.? The start date can be July
1 or Sept. 1, 2012 or Jan 1, 2013.? We especially seek a social scientist
who has expertise in teaching in one of the following areas:
sustainable food and agriculture systems, climate and energy policy, water
policy, global environmental politics, environmental ethics, urban
environment, or institutional politics/common property.? We are open to
considering practitioners? who would bring current and relevant
environmental experience to the classroom.? We also value teachers with
experience working collaboratively across disciplines and experience working
with community agencies and NGOs on engaged projects involving students.?
The teaching load is three courses per year, and the position entails
supervising 5-7 senior theses or capstone projects. Depending upon the
candidate?s qualifications, they may be asked to teach core environmental
studies courses, so experience in teaching any of these courses will be a
helpful addition to the candidate?s qualifications (please see
envstudies.brown.edu for our full curriculum). Applicants must have a Ph.D.
or terminal degree in a relevant discipline at the time of commencing work.
Full consideration will be given to applications received by May 30, 2012;
we will continue to accept applications until the position is filled.
