Okay this looks to be a concurrency issue - I can run the tests multiple times and have it pass or fail based on luck.
There are a number of caches kept so that function look up performs faster: - FunctionFinder keeps a Map<String,FunctionFactory> - DefaultFunctionFactory keeps a Map<String,FunctionDescriptor> Going
