afaik, the problem is caused by classes being in both system and context
classloader (but completely separate classloader hierarchies) and an
undetermined classloader lookup order in the FactoryRegistry. I would
make the order deterministic by using an ordered set.
As the "effort to replace spi" is not funded I would take part if you
want to see it succeed a timely fashion. It has been unfunded for a
good five years now and the problem is still with us :-)
