Hi Brad, looks like you want client side filtering and styling, without having to reload data from the client? OpenLayers should be able to do that with the GetFeature WFS output format, if you want to try something different, you can also install the Mapbox vector tiles plugin, MVT are supported by both OpenLayers and Leaflet
