HI, the library behind GeoServer raster data access is unfortunately not reporting error messages back, it just tells it could not open the file... the issue has been known for a long while, it's an old design mistake that's expensive to fix now (we'd be very happy if someone would sponsor such fix, but paying customers normally get us look at the specific case and solve it, it's much quicker than solving the underlying error reporting issue).
About the NetCDF, is it CF compliant? The NetCDF reader can only read that type of files, you can read more about it here: https://docs.geoserver.org/stable/en/user/extensions/netcdf/netcdf.html#notes-on-supported-netcdfs Failing to comply with the CF convention is the most common reason why a NetCDF does not get open.
