The circles are the result of the stroke on the two overlapping polygons.  If 
you remove/make transparent the stroke, and leave the fill as is, it will 
remove the circles.  Mind you, this will also remove the hard edge of the 
polygon, but it should still delineate the edge simply due to the difference in 
the styled polygon and surrounding image data.

Or is there some way of setting the fill color in absolute values with rgba or 
similar, so that the two feature styles’ fill would not add up.

You can try with composite controls, maybe with a mix of composite-base in the 
fill layer and
using copy compositing along with it... unsure :-)
However, the strokes would become visible, maybe you can put them on top and 
use a destination-out compositing for them.
Again, not sure, you'll have to try that out :-)
