found the problem:
When publishing data with EPSG:4326 (FORCED) and the „Linearization tolerance“
is not empty, the error is thrown regardless if „Curved geometries control“ is
ticked or not.
Mea culpa – don´t ask me why I´ve ticked and used a value for the tolerance for
EPSG:4326 data.

something with the installation/configuration.
When I assign EPSG:4326 to any WGS84-data geoserver throws the error
„javax.measure.converter.ConversionException: is not compatible with m“.
Any idea where I should start to look for?
I would start by looking at the prj files, maybe the answer is in there.
