And oh, I went for the high performance solution without thinking of the
obvious one: cascade
them all, and then create a layer group.
However, this solution does not satisfy any of the desirable points in my
bullet list, it will
make requests one after the other, fail if one of the remote servers fail,
and will make
requests to remote servers even if they are out of their covered bounding
box.
