Thanks for pointing in the right way. I tested with WMS client and was ok
(previously requested GetCapabilities from browser, thats why I get also
junk).

After disabling the gzip compression in Firefox works ok.

The article you sent suggest to change the value of *
network.http.accept-encoding* in *about:config* to *gzip;q=0,deflate;q=0*,
but to get it working properly I needed to empty the value.

Will check if possible disable in WAS the gzip compression only for
GeoServer as not nice to depend on client configuration.
