The link that Edward referred to mentions meta tiles in GeoServer hard
coded to 3x3. Does this mean that GeoServer (not using GWC) creates
meta tiles for all WMS requests?

Additionally, if you can configure your client to include an
appropriate "buffer" parameter, this will fix the problem. Just make
your buffer at least half the width of the widest marker/label that
you will have. (So &buffer=8 will correct for icon slicing on 16-pixel
icons, etc.)

Not something related to GeoServer, but your tiling engine. Check
out whether you can specify an extra gutter/buffer around the
meta-tiles that you request from GeoServer. The exact parameter
depends on your tiling engine.

Subject: [Geoserver-users] Point markers that straddle tiles
Hi all,
When using images as point styles I have discovered that if the
image straddles a tile it will cut off at the edge of the tile. Is
there any way to prevent this? The attached image shows a couple
of examples of this in action and you can see where the edges of
the tiles are. The two icons at the bottom have their tops
missing (slightly) while the two just to the right and a little
further up are virtually cut in half!
Incidentally, the attached image also shows that alpha
transparency doesn't appear to work either. Each of the images
has a border with alpha transparency but they are rendered as black.
We're using Geoserver 2.1.3 on Windows Server 2008 32bit.
