Somehow none of the updates(syncs) actually updated it to the latest stable version (4.8.2) So dev-python/PyQt4 and hence some of the kde-meta packages were borked. A long journey. Caveat: Don't to 8 months without an update (was I that hard headed in grad school)....? too long ago to remember....
