I did all this...

/usr/portage/profiles/default/linux/x86/10.0
ls -la /etc/make.profile
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 54 2009-10-28
21:35 /etc/make.profile -> ../usr/portage/profiles/default/linux/x86/10.0/desktop
I remade the link..still the problem loves to bug me..
gate etc # ls -la /etc/make.profile
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 54 Jan 16 12:08 /etc/make.profile ->
../usr/portage/profiles/default/linux/x86/10.0/desktop
gate etc # emerge eselect
