Um, I have this in package.use: akonadi-server:app-office/akonadi-server sqlite -mysql kde-meta:kde-base/kde-meta -mysql qt-sql:x11-libs/qt-sql postgres -mysql
and do _not_ have MySQL installed. I have noticed zero functionality loss in my KDE4 desktop. FWIW.
