Did you upgrade to jpeg-7 recently?

The makers of Xorg have disabled ctrl-alt-backspace by default in
recent versions (since ~6 months ago or so?). Add this to your
.xinitrc (or whatever) to get this behavior back:
setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp
