Of course, what you are trying to install, to be fair, isn't exactly trivial and g-cpan does trivial well enough... usually. So, perhaps you could just install the pieces you need? I don't think portage will ever be able to handle CPAN 'bundles'. Just gcpan -g for each item in the package from a shell script. Maybe it will work once you have an ebuild for each needed module, or you can see which one is just way off... and edit to work. You do have the ("perl-experimental") overlay? Good luck.
