When you say old keys, were these imported from a key server, or you had them stored locally? Were they perhaps created using gpg, as opposed to the later gpg2? I wonder if there is some incompatibility between the two that causes this ... I will need to renew my key pair soon because it is about to expire so I will no doubt see what the new keys do (as long as I remember to call gpg2 --gen-key rather than gpg).
