aemaeth portage # emerge -a1 app-editors/joe-3.5 These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies t, !!! 'app-editors/joe-3.5' is not a valid package atom. !!! Please check ebuild(5) for full details. !!! (Did you specify a version but forget to prefix with '='?) ... done! aemaeth portage # emerge -C app-editors/joe-3.5 app-editors/joe selected: 3.5 protected: none omitted: none >>> 'Selected' packages are slated for removal. >>> 'Protected' and 'omitted' packages will not be removed. >>> Waiting 5 seconds before starting... >>> (Control-C to abort)... >>> Unmerging in: 5 4 3 2 1 >>> Unmerging app-editors/joe-3.5... * GNU info directory index is up-to-date. Why in some circumstances emerge is perfectly able to spot user omission and fill-in it automatically, while with other options it just complains? The inability to add missing "=" and the inconsistence annoy me. IMHO emerge should be able to add the equal sign when it makes perfect sense as it already does sometimes.
