Trying to emerge xine-ui stopped here:

Someone on the gentoo forum had the same problem and
solved it by removing the "-combine" flag. I don't
know why he calls it the *minus* combine flag. I
always thought the minus sign means it isn't being
used.

Anyways, there's no such flag, minus or otherwise, in
the output of emerge -av xine-ui:

localhost heathen # emerge -av xine-ui
