This isn't exactly portage (the app or the tree) being corrupted. It's just the dev-libs/expat bump which has broken your system. `revdep-rebuild -X --library libexpat.so.0`. And make sure it remerges both fontconfig and gtk+-2.x (amongst a lot of other stuff). If you have more problems with this feel free to ask again. -- Bo Andresen
