Did you make the last step on this here [1] with the right settings? Are you sure that there are cyrillic fonts istalled? "emerge -s cyrillic" shows me that I could install several which are all masked. [1] http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=6
