deface - thanks, but I'd already read that section after finding it via scroogle. That particular advice didn't work for me. However, as long as I had that page open, I saw a bit about making the following change in xorg.conf. from --- Section "Device" Identifier "ATI Graphics Adapter 0" Driver "fglrx" BusID "PCI:3:0:0" EndSection to --- Section "Device" Identifier "ATI Graphics Adapter 0" Driver "radeon" BusID "PCI:3:0:0" EndSection ...and this worked.
