Error messages and Google: my favorite combo. To summarize: The TIFF file format permits programs to include information which only that program understands. TIFF files produced by programs that do this are not always readable by other programs. and End result: if you get your hands on one of these "old style jpeg in tiff" files, you're pretty much out of luck.
