You can't have a framebuffer splash and tux, it's one or the other. I believe this is documented in some inconvenient place in the kernel configuration. Relevant parts of my grub.conf: kernel /boot/kernel-2.6.20-gentoo root=/dev/sda2 vga=0x31B splash=verbose,theme:echoes video=vesafb:mtrr,ywrap initrd /boot/initrd-fbsplash (I chose the easy method and put my splash images in an initramfs file, but if you've added yours to the kernel that should work fine too) --Thomas
