Mark,

There's some dictionaries you've got to include to allow for the spell
check to work in OO.o... From memory, try:

# emerge -DNuva aspell-en
# emerge -DNuva hunspell

I'm sure there's more to include, but I can't remember them. Don't
forget to restart OO.o to pick up the new dictionaries...

To see all the available dictionaries, try:

# emerge -s spell

Thanks Ric,
As for Evolution it turns out that he had probably deselected the
dictionary choice inside of Evolution itself. I reenabled that and now
Evolution correctly spell checks.

As for Open Office I've decided to wait until I'm there for
Christmas to look at it.

I seem to have a reasonable set of things installed on his system:

gandalf ~ # eix -Ic spell
[I] app-dicts/aspell-en (0.51.1): English (US, British, Canadian)
language dictionary for aspell
[I] app-text/aspell (0.50.5-r4): A spell checker replacement for ispell
[I] app-text/gnome-spell (1.0.7-r1): Gnome spellchecking component
[I] app-text/gtkspell (2.0.11-r1): Spell checking widget for GTK2
Found 4 matches.
gandalf ~ #

Thanks very much for the ideas.

Cheers,
Mark
