You might find this useful: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Dual_Monitors In particular, the above page links to this sample xorg.conf: http://mg.pov.lt/xorg.conf ...which is thoroughly and beautifully commented, and came in very handy when I configured my own system last month. One distinction which you might not be aware of: there are typically two ways to run dualhead: 1) Xinerama: one big "screen". You can slide windows from one monitor to the other. 2) Multi Screen: two semi-independent displays. Switching virtual desktops on one will not affect the other.
