Hi list,
this may be a trivial question, but I really
don't know anything about networking.
When I connect my laptop to the internet
through my Netgear router, both firefox and
galeon work fine, but I can not run emerge:

emerge --sync
Starting rsync with rsync://1.0.0.0/gentoo-portage...
Checking server timestamp ...

However, after doing

ping rsync.gentoo.org
PING rsync.gentoo.org (134.68.220.97) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from rsync.gentoo.org (134.68.220.97): icmp_seq=1 ttl=49 time=170 ms
64 bytes from rsync.gentoo.org (134.68.220.97): icmp_seq=2 ttl=49 time=171 ms
64 bytes from rsync.gentoo.org (134.68.220.97): icmp_seq=3 ttl=49 time=168 ms

--- rsync.gentoo.org ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 1998ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 168.541/169.990/171.031/1.159 ms

emerge works:

emerge --sync
Starting rsync with rsync://134.68.220.97/gentoo-portage...
Checking server timestamp ...
Welcome to hawk.gentoo.org

I am even unsure if the problem is the router
or the laptop configuration or both, hence the OT.
Any suggestion?

Thank you
 Marco
