No it's not. emerge behaves differently when you use --update, in two ways. I doesn't re-emerge the package if the same version is already installed, and it updates first-level dependencies, whereas emerge without update only installs the package itself, plus any required dependencies. > Use --oneshot instead, so shadow and libutempter don't end up in > your world file.
