Where is it? I'm surprised you think xbindkeysrc is arcane, I usually have lots of trouble understanding different kinds of edit requirements but fell right into xbindkeysrc. But you are right to point out that for convienience and for occassional use KHotkeys is good, and since it is integrated into kde doesn't suffer from conflicting combos easily.
