You may also be interested in a tool called enotice. It should be present somewhere on the forums. Make sure you have the newest version, because the older one has a very annoying bug which causes you to miss notices. Anyway, with enotice, you can easily keep track of the messages emerge gives you, without digging through the logfiles yourself.
