A re-installation is unlikely to make any difference. This isn't Windows :) When you get this problem, first of all make sure that you've restarted Apache since adding the -D PHP4 line in /etc/conf.d/apache2. Then make absolutely sure that you've emptied your browser's cache. That fixes this problem for most people.
