You can safely use i686 tarballs. For the -march option it depends on the gcc version you are planning to use - for versions <=3.3 use -march=pentium3, for version >= 3.4 you can use -march=pentium-m /this is what I use / Tushe -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
