Hi group,

After struggling unsuccessfully with CUPS I installed
lprng and apsfilter. I got as far as printing the test
page in apsfilter-setup but any attempt to print
fails.

Here's a recent xterm session:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ $ lpq
Printer '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' - cannot open connection - No
such file or directory
Make sure the remote host supports the LPD protocol
and accepts connections from this host and from
non-privileged (>1023) ports
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ $ lpstat

such file or directory
Make sure the remote host supports the LPD protocol

sarawak heathen # lpoptions
bash: lpoptions: command not found
sarawak heathen # lpc reread

What the heck is this "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"?

Anybody see a problem here:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ $ cat /etc/hosts
# /etc/hosts: This file describes a number of
hostname-to-address
# mappings for the TCP/IP subsystem. It
is mostly
# used at boot time, when no name servers
are running.
# On small systems, this file can be used
instead of a
# "named" name server. Just add the
names, addresses
# and any aliases to this file...

I'm using an HP612C attached to

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ $ ls -l /dev/lp0
crw-rw---- 1 root lp 6, 0 Feb 18 02:00 /dev/lp0

Which is odd because according to

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ $ cat /etc/lprng/printcap
# /etc/printcap: printer capability database.

# You can use the filter entries df, tf, cf, gf etc.
for your
# own filters. See the printcap(5) manpage for more
details.

        :lp=/dev/lp1

# :sd=/var/spool/lpd/remote
# :mx#0
# :sh

the printer is attached to /dev/lp1. I've edited that
line to /dev/lp0 but it made no difference.
