I would suspect that an inkjet with built-in networking might often be a better option - these are becoming quite cheap now. My mother has a Brother DCP310CN All In One which is £85 from Tescos & came with free delivery. It has built in ethernet & is connected to her wireless ADSL router - the OP could use a bridge. The DCP310CN works happily with my ma's Mac for both printing & scanning across the network and Brother supply Linux LPR drivers for it. The OP's Deskjet doesn't look too special, so if he's not after a challenge it might be worth an upgrade.
