I'm still having the same error and cannot work out any way to fix it without removing gnome - which I do not want to do if I can avoid it.
Can anyone suggest any remedies for this error or should I just give up and remove gnome, then do the upgrade then try and re-emerge gnome?
Could it be that because I emerged a few ~amd64 packages (nvidia-kernel, nvidia-glx, k9copy and a couple of others I cannot remember at the moment and I don't currently have access to my Gentoo box) that this has caused some library problems?
I'm just a bit stuck here and would love to get this sorted out as I don't like having to use Windows when I should be using Gentoo!!!

on AMD64, it's starting to annoy me all of the problems I am having in trying to get my system up to date... but I really want to work through it!
