Close but no cigar. I did use

ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge kde

All of these ~x86 packages were brought in at that time

I'm about at the point where I'll let portage downgrade everything it wants
to, but I'm afraid that it might break something else.
I did try:
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge-p world and there are MANY more packages in that
list, so I'm sure they came in with KDE-3.5
from emerge .log:
1133846721: Started emerge on: Dec 06, 2005 00:25:21
1133846721: *** emerge --update --ask kde
1133846729:  >>> emerge (1 of 122) sys-devel/patch-2.5.9-r1 to /
1133846729:  === (1 of 122) Cleaning
<snip>
1133851691:  >>> emerge (14 of 122) sys-devel/libperl-5.8.7 to /
1133851691:  === (14 of 122)
<snip>
1133852294:  >>> emerge (16 of 122) sys-devel/autoconf-wrapper-3.2 to /
1133852294:  === (16 of 122)
<snip>
m4 is in the log in the same build date, as are all others I checked. Frankly
I'm baffled.
