Thanks for all your answers. I didn't know about https://www.openprinting.org 
and https://openprinting.github.io, and it's nice to know that the printer 
should work. During the weekend I'll investigate this issue in more detail and 
also check Brother printers as Jay suggested.

I'll let you know how it goes.
